NEW LEADERSHIP TAKES THE HELM AT Trinitas Hospital AUXILIARY

Newly-installed Chair Promotes Interest in Group's Activities

Continuing its tradition of volunteerism, community health education and commitment to the mission of Trinitas Hospital, the Auxiliary of Trinitas Hospital is pleased to announce its new leadership. Members of the Executive Committee include: Auxiliary Chair Robin McHugh of Roselle; 1st Vice Chair Sister Clare Maureen Tracy, SC; Recording Secretary Virginia Busch; Corresponding Secretary, Marion Warren, and Treasurer Jack M. Busch, all of Elizabeth.

Other Board members include: Anne Aselin; Elinor Blore; Josephine DeSimone; Anna Marie Kitzler; Stephanie Laucius; Dorothy Luttgens; Eileen Manning; June Mosse; Roslyn Schwartzberg; Barbara Spital; Liz Weishapl and Bette Weiss. Members of the hospital staff who serve on the Board include: Nadine Brechner, Executive Director, Trinitas Health Foundation; Lisa Liss, Director of Volunteer Services, and Dee Risko, Auxiliary Coordinator. Arlene Horan, who is married to Trinitas Hospital President and CEO Gary S. Horan, is also a current Board member.

"I am energized and excited about leading this committed group of volunteers who have been such a significant asset to the Hospital," said Robin, whose husband, William McHugh, MD, is Medical Director at Trinitas Hospital. "The accomplishments of this group can be traced back to the separate Auxiliaries of St. Elizabeth Hospital and Elizabeth General Medical Center prior to their merger in 2000 to form Trinitas Hospital," she notes, adding, "The success of the Auxiliary can further be attributed to the strong leadership that it has enjoyed for many years. In fact, Gloria Pischeria who recently retired from her position as Chair, was a significant force in the Auxiliary for more than five decades."

Robin McHugh traces her connection to hospitals in Elizabeth to her service as a teen volunteer at St. Elizabeth's Hospital while she was in high school. A graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson, Robin later worked as a registered nurse in the medical/surgical patient units at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for several years prior to her marriage to Dr. William McHugh. Robin has also worked in the office of Dr. McHugh, pursued and completed a Bachelor's degree in History from Kean University, and attained a Master's degree in Early Modern European History from New York University in 1991.

"Trinitas Hospital is truly in my blood and I intend to increase the level of awareness of the Auxiliary within the community," explained Robin recently, who further added, "In order for the good work of the Auxiliary to continue, the current Board and I encourage women, as well as men, who are energetic, creative, and interested in giving back to the community to consider volunteering their time to the Auxiliary."

The Auxiliary's fundraising activities span a wide range of interest. Community education programs such as "Fitness Over 50" help to improve understanding of health issues and concerns in the community. Among the most sought-after Auxiliary events are trips to Atlantic City, Broadway shows and the annual trip to Monmouth Race Track which is scheduled for August 26. A presentation entitled "Beyond Curb Appeal: How to Get Your Home Ready for Re-Sale" is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9 at 11:30 am. Seasoned real estate agent Janice VanDerVeken, owner and operator of Town and Country Home Staging, will share tips on how to realize the greatest potential on the sale of your biggest investment. Those interested in the Monmouth Race Track trip or the program in October can contact the Auxiliary at 908-994-8988.

"Those who join the Auxiliary can look forward to genuine personal growth through new friends and contacts as well as the gratification that comes from helping to make a difference to the patients and community served by Trinitas Hospital," notes Robin. For more information about the Trinitas Hospital Auxiliary or to volunteer time, energy and talents, women and men are urged to contact the Auxiliary office at 908-994-8988.
