Mental Health Awareness Month is observed throughout May in the United States. The purpose of Mental Health Month is to increase awareness about mental health, mental illness, and treatment options.

Good mental health is an important component to one's overall health and is vital to personal well-being and the ability to lead a healthy balanced life.

Mental health problems can impair a person's thinking, feelings, and behavior and can be serious and disabling. Many times individuals who are in need of services do not seek treatment for a variety of reasons including fear of social stigma, a lack of understanding as to what constitutes a mental health impairment, and being unaware of services available.

The better educated individuals are about the importance of maintaining good mental health and seeking treatment when needed, the better the chance of leading a productive and happy life.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Trinitas Regional Medical Center is hosting the events that can be found on http://www.trinitashospital.org/behavioral_health_events.asp.
