Trinitas Mental Health Services In Relation To MRMC Closure
Trinitas has been working with representatives from the Solaris Health
System (JFK/MRMC), the Division of Mental Health Services, and Assemblyman
Jerry Green's task force for several months to ensure a smooth service
transition for residents of Union County, especially the Western part of the
county, and in particular Plainfield, in relation to the closing of
Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center (MRMC).
The most significant changes to the delivery of mental health services will
be as follows:

|
Trinitas Regional Medical Center, with the support of the Division of Mental Health
Services (DMHS), has redesigned county-wide Psychiatric Emergency
Services (PES) to be less facility-based and to a greater extent
community-based. As a result of assuming the PES contract Muhlenberg had
with the DMHS, alternatives to medical/psychiatric emergency facility
use have been developed to create more options for assessment and
treatment.
|

|
Trinitas Regional Medical Center, in collaboration with the Solaris Health System,
will continue to have PES professionals based in Plainfield on the MRMC
campus. The number to be utilized is
908-994-7131.
|

|
Trinitas Regional Medical Center has formerly applied to operate, in Elizabeth,
STCF/acute care psychiatric beds that had been at MRMC. We anticipate
state approval to operate these beds in the Fall. However, under a
temporary agreement we are currently serving individuals requiring this
level of care.
|

|
Affiliation agreements with key providers are in place to guide the
operation of these changes. Additional agreements are being developed.
|

|
The county-wide Psychiatric Emergency System Review sub-committee
will continue to meet regularly to review how this system change is
working in Union County.
|
Please contact Kelly Baker at 908-994-7452 to discuss these changes in
Psychiatric Emergency Services.
